A Succulent Cupcake

Pink & Green Leafy Succulent

This is the pink and green leafy succulent tutorial. This is pretty simple, and considering my level of baking skill, I'm sure anyone can do it. All you'll need is the proper firmness of your icing, a green and pink food colouring and you're set. Of course, you'll still need your basic cupcake supplies. But other than that, you're good to go. Let's start!

Instructions

We're starting by decorating our pre-baked cupcakes. We're going to start by placing our pink & green icing in the piping bags. The trick for this to work is to make sure that our icing has the right firmness, otherwise, it'll get droopy. And no body wants sad icing. Place the icing by alternating both colours. After placing the icing in the piping bag, squeeze the icing down to create the right texture. We're going to use flat piping tips for this technique. You can follow other recipes to the dot, or be stress-free and just use whatever flat piping tip you have on hand that works for you. Use parchment paper as a practice sheet. This will help you have the right consistency of icing in your piping bag. It also gets pretty warm in your hands after a few practice rounds.

Thick Green Succulent Things

For this plant baby, I used different sized piping tips and different shades of green. This one might be the most easiest to do because it's like a pattern - you'll just squeeze, hold and pull.

Just remember, decorating these plant babies are very much like painting or putting on your own makeup. You can make it as pretty or simple as you want.

Instructions

Start by bagging your icing in the pipe bag. Use a round tip of different sizes for this one. Once you have enough icing in the bag, squeeze the icing downwards. Practice making thick succulent leaves on your parchment paper first. Once you're confident, you can try placing one on a flower nail with your parchment paper squares.

The smaller green succulents on this piece are done in a different shade. Prepare a separate bag for this shade of green. Use a smaller round tip and pipe away.

Christmas Cactus

Ah, the infamous Christmas cactus! Or atleast that's what I think they're called.

This one will require quite a bit more of that tender, love and care. We do know that the actual plant does too, doesn't it? But don't let this stop you from trying! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it once you're confident enough with your piping techniques.

Instructions

This one needed three different kind of tips - a small rounded one for the spikes, a medium star shape for the flower and the large star shaped one for the succulent. Prepare 3 different piping bags with their prespective colours. I also used crushed graham crackers to recreate a desert base for the cupcake.

This technique uses a lot of the hold pattern - squeeze and hold and repeat to create another succulent.
